Thesis MFA Design.
Designed at the School of Visual Arts.
Arlequin TV is my thesis project for the MFA Designer as Author program at the School of Visual Arts. Arlequin TV is a pan-European cultural channel on the Web with a strong focus on independent music videos. The channel uses music as a tool to guide audiences toward more engaging content, such as films, books and contemporary art. The channel brings together Europe's vibrant cultural scenes, enabling young Europeans to share a common cultural and entertainment platform.
The visuals:
My intention was to create a tension between bold, modern graphics and the classical connotation of the name Arlequin. This has guided most of the visual strategy.
I abstracted the diamond shape pattern of the harlequin's costume to create the channel's icon. It acts as a stamp of quality, as Arlequin TV is mainly a curator of content.
Print campaign:
The Song of the Day poster allows passersby to discover a new song everyday by simply scanning the QR code at the bottom of the poster.
Arlequin city guides are distributed for free in restaurants, bars, music festivals and stores. They are published four times a year and highlight the creative scene of various European cities.
Videos:
The central branding element for Arlequin TV revolves around short promotional videos. The bumpers for instance, express the values of the brand, and most thoroughly define the tone of voice of the channel.
A still life, representing Europe's cultural heritage, is turned upside down to reveal its young and creative scenes.
